drooling over werner camano carbon shaft

I just got my REI member coupon in the mail, good for 20% off. Unfortunately, REI tends to clear out paddling gear during the colder months to make way for snow sports. I’m so glad for online stores…

I already have a carbon fiber Werner Kalliste and a fiberglass Werner Camano, but I DON’T have a CARBON FIBER CAMANO.

If this is as good as the paddles I have, it is certainly droolworthy. More importantly, it is ON SALE.

So tempted.

winter kayaking on lake tahoe

October 6, 2009 Leave a comment

Previously, I had mentioned kayaking on Lake Tahoe in the winter. I’ve never done it but imagine it would be eerie and quite pretty. I’ve been there for other reasons in the winter and liked the quiet and the look of the mist over the water. Of course, the main concern would be safety. I don’t think I would do this paddle without a drysuit, and I don’t think I’m about to spend $800 on one. I have one for scuba, but I’m not sure how well it would work. I don’t really see why it wouldn’t.

Another concern would be navigating in the mist or fog. It may be enough to have a compass, or just stay close to shore, but who knows. It’s also very doubtful that I can convince anyone else to join me. Too far and too cold. I’m sure others have done it, but we’ll see if it ever happens for me.

“kayak” falling off a cliff

google trends search volume for "kayak"

It’s that time again.  Time for interest in kayaking to fall off a freakin cliff.  I understand that people do go kayaking in the colder months but I also understand that these people are insane.  I imagine they are salty seafaring types, bearded and weathered, with a permanent layer of salty crust on their sun-freckled leathery hides.  I had always fantasized about paddling misty Lake Tahoe in the winter, but COME ON PEOPLE IT’S FREEZING OUT THERE.

That’s us losing interest at the right edge of the graph above.  I love graphs and I also love kayaks.  So this graph makes me all jittery with excitement. OOO-O-O-OOO-OOHHH!

i stole this from a commercial

HEY.  How did you find this place?

yahoo.  WAIT.  how did you learn how to talk?

YAHOO.

However you found this place, thanks for visiting.  Most likely you found this post by scrolling through archived entries.  Maybe you wondered what the very first post looked like.  It looks much like this.  If you remember the commercial from which I stole the above lines, it had a regular dude waist deep in a tropical ocean.  Palm trees, sand, etc.  And he’s talking to a dolphin.

I hope you have enjoyed reading the posts on this humble kayaking blog.  I also hope you are amused by my ruminating on the future in the past tense.  Do you like dolphins?  They are SO CUTE.
